All you need to do is tilt the screen and watch as your penguin takes on the challenge of surviving through the melting ice caps.

While it may be tempting to compare Air Penguin with Angry Birds, doing so would be unfair. Sure, the avian-themed game features birds (penguins, to be specific), and they seem to be a bit miffed about the melting polar caps, but this $1 offering from Gamevil is a whole different animal than its Angry Birds brethren.

Instead of using on-screen buttons or touch controls, the game utilizes your iPhone's accelerometer to control its action. Just tilt the screen forward, backward or side to side to get your penguin to float across a series of ice platforms. The object is to reach the flag at the end of each level without falling into the cold waters below.

Along the way, you can skateboard on turtles, ride on whales, fly in the air and even do a bit of swimming. The variety of gameplay keeps things interesting, and your score goes up as you complete levels. You can also collect stars and other items that will help you unlock more levels.

It's not as physics-based as Angry Birds, but it still has plenty of the slick, addictive gameplay that Apple users have come to expect from a 99-cent game. The adorable graphics and dead simple controls will have you hitting that "just one more time" button over and over again.
